The Christchurch City Library is a massive, eight-floor testament to Christchurch engineering. With its unique shape and stacked box look, the building has become part of the vibing hub of Christchurch City Centre.
All of which is why we were elated to have secured the paint job on the library's exterior. Completed after the earthquakes, Tūranga is a $92.7 million design collaboration between Architectus and Danish firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects. It combines glass and a folded aluminium façade on top of a black box for a unique play on geometrical shape.
It was this last part that the Competitive Painters team was brought in to work on the steel exterior, finishing the building with a complementary black which is somewhat quieter when compared to the loud, twisting designs used above.
This was a tremendous project, which we're extremely proud to have been a part of.
