Lumière Cinemas

On Rolleston Avenue, amongst the historic buildings of Christchurch, sits the Lumière Cinemas, home of movies mainstream, film festival, harder to find or out of the past. For serious movie goers, the Lumière is the perfect place to spend the day or evening, with regular showings the week around.

The Lumière has a very distinctive, historic look, which we were careful to preserve. For one, the colours couldn't distract from the marvels on the screen themselves when playing. However, in keeping with true cinema spirit, all of the floors, walls and ceilings are heavily detailed.

Stripped and patterned walls heavily featuring dorado and black cat surround the cinema room itself, whilst lighter tones like sandy beach are used in the lobby to brighten up the room after the movie experience.

All in all, it was a privilege to decorate the Lumière's boutique interior and vitage ambiance add to the history of the building, which was designed in the gothic style in 1877 by Benjamin Woolfield Mountfort (originally as a University) before first becoming a cinema in 1976.
